Badgerland Exteriors specializes in asphalt shingle roof replacements for customers whose roofs are failing due to old age or storm damage. Our team prides itself in assisting customers in navigating the insurance claim process when evidence of hail damage is found. In addition to single family homes, Badgerland Exteriors often partners with Property Management companies and HOAs who manage multi-family properties. Other services include roof repair, gutter replacement, metal and rubber roof replacements, and siding replacements. Our newest service offered is solar panel installation through our new division, Badgerland Solar.
Owner, AJ Stoffels, started Badgerland Exteriors in 2009 after working in the roofing industry for multiple years. Badgerland Solar, the newest division of the company, is rolling out in the summer of 2024.
The Badgerland Exteriors office is located in Sauk City, Wisconsin and services Madison and its immediate suburbs. Our service area extends as far as Baraboo to the north, Mazomanie and Mount Horeb to the west, Stoughton and Oregon to the south, and Sun Prairie and Poynette to the east.
Call Badgerland Exteriors or fill out an inquiry form on our website. A rep will get on your roof to inspect for any wind or hail damage. If evidence of hail damage is found, the homeowner will be encouraged to file an insurance claim. The Badgerland Exteriors rep should ideally be present at the insurance adjustment to share findings and advocate for the appropriate coverage.
Badgerland Exteriors accepts check, cash, and credit card payments. Please note there is a 3.5% charge for credit card payments due to processing fees.
We do offer financing through Acorn. At the initial sales appointment, a sales rep can send a link to the short application. Customers will be presented with offers from lenders with NO IMPACT to their credit score for pre-approval.
In Wisconsin, asphalt shingle roofs typically last 15-25 years depending on the type of shingle installed. Because of the diverse weather conditions faced in Wisconsin, an architectural shingle (laminate) will likely last longer than 3-tab shingles (fiberglass). Badgerland Exteriors installs Atlas Pinnacle Pristine architectural shingles most often because of the durability, impact resistance, and color selection.
A new roof can be one of the largest purchases homeowners can make. It’s important to get all of the facts.
Asphalt shingles are less expensive and may have a shorter lifespan (~15-25 years), however, a high quality architectural shingle will likely be more dent-resistant than metal if a hail storm passes through.
Metal roofs are more expensive and may have a longer lifespan (~50-60 years). Metal roofs are long lasting, more environmentally friendly, and are typically lower maintenance. On the other hand, they may fade or rust over time, and they may be noisy during rain and hail storms.
Finding the right contractor to install a metal roof is crucial to ensure all seams are sealed properly to prevent leaking. It is important to check your insurance policy when considering a metal roof because if the aesthetic is affected by hail damage dents, there may not be coverage since the integrity of the roof still stands.
In addition to any manufacturer warranties, Badgerland Exteriors offers a 10 year warranty on all roof replacements. A one year warranty is available for gutter replacements. There are no warranties on roof repairs.
The Badgerland Exteriors team uses Catch-All Job Site Protection Kit as well as their Shrub Shield to protect homeowners’ properties from falling roof debris. In addition, sheets of plywood are used to cover vulnerable areas of the home. We also use an Equipter drivable dumpster with a lift to get as close as possible to catch all tear-off material. It is important for homeowners to understand there will be pounding when the new shingles are being installed, so all interior and exterior valuables should be treated with care to prevent damage during this process.
The Wisconsin climate can be unpredictable. To ensure the proper conditions to complete a roof replacement, it needs to be consistently 40 degrees or warmer, and there must be less than 30% chance of rain in the forecast. Our typical roofing season extends from March or April through mid-November. In regards to our workload, the Badgerland Exteriors sales rep will have a better idea of our current workload when they arrive at each sales appointment. The time spent on each roof replacement depends on the size and complexity of the building. For lead times on non-roofing projects, please inquire here.
Our pricing depends on a lot of factors.
For roof replacements, pricing depends on the size, pitch, and complexity of the roof, the type of shingles selected, as well as the integrity of the structure under the old shingles and underlayment. If during tear-off it is discovered the existing plywood is rotten and needs to be replaced, there is a per sheet charge. This is listed in the terms and conditions of the service agreement.
Roof repairs start at $650. A rep will stop out to assess the problem and solution as well as the time and materials needed to complete the repair.
Solar panel installation estimates require customers to send copies of recent electric bills to our rep. This will allow our estimating software to maximize placement and number of panels to cover monthly costs. Estimates also include any potential State or Federal incentives.
Residential solar installation involves placing solar panels on a homeowner's property to generate electricity from sunlight. It typically includes mounting panels on rooftops or on the ground, connecting them to the home's electrical system, and ensuring everything meets local regulations.
Benefits include reduced electricity bills, potential financial incentives (tax credits, rebates), lower carbon footprint, increased home value, and energy independence.
Solar panels contain photovoltaic cells that convert sunlight into direct current (DC) electricity. An inverter then converts this into alternating current (AC) electricity that can power your home.
Most homes can accommodate solar panels if they have a roof or space with adequate sunlight exposure throughout the day. Factors like roof orientation, shading, and local climate can affect suitability.
Solar panels cannot be installed on aging or failing roofs. If you are unsure of the condition of your roof, that’s okay! Badgerland Solar is a division of Badgerland Exteriors, and each time we look at solar for a home, we are also analyzing the roof and educating the homeowner on the lifespan of their roof.
Solar panels still generate electricity on cloudy or rainy days, although their output will be reduced compared to sunny days. They do not require direct sunlight to produce electricity, but more sunlight generally means more energy production.
Costs vary based on system size, location, roof type, and equipment quality. However, due to technological advancements and incentives, costs have generally decreased.
Many governments offer incentives such as tax credits, rebates, or performance-based incentives to encourage solar adoption. Local utilities might also offer programs. Currently, most Wisconsin homeowners qualify for a 30% federal tax credit as well as a $300 grant through Focus on Energy.
The installation process typically takes several days to a few weeks, depending on the complexity of the system and local regulations. Weather conditions can also affect the timeline.
Solar panels are generally low-maintenance. Periodic inspection for debris or damage and cleaning if necessary (usually with water) can help maintain optimal performance. Homeowners with trees around their property might want to consider adding a critter guard to their system, to keep small animals from burrowing or nesting under their solar PV array.
Research local companies, read reviews, check certifications (like NABCEP), compare quotes, and ensure they provide comprehensive warranties and support.
Potential downsides include the initial cost (although this is often offset by savings over time), variable weather affecting energy production, and potential aesthetic concerns depending on installation method. Badgerland Solar works directly with our customers to ensure that the system is pleasing to the eye, and as symmetrical as possible on your roof!
